Joseph Burns was promoted to managing principal in Chicago of New York-based The Thornton-Tomasetti Group Inc. He was previously principal.
The Thornton-Tomasetti Group Inc. is an engineering firm.

Ronald Oakley was named CEO of New York-based Lend Lease Americas, a firm that encompasses Bovis Lend Lease. He was previously group executive of government of Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Fluor Corp.

Lend Lease Americas is a real estate firm providing project management, construction and other services.

Bernard Spatz, secretary-treasurer of the Chicago and Cook County Building and Construction Trades Council, is a recipient of the Rerum Novarum award at the annual Seminary Salute to Labor, Business and Government at St. Joseph College Seminary at Loyola University in Chicago. Cardinal Francis George personally presented the honor at the Plumbers Union Hall in Chicago.

Kate Brannelly was named director of marketing of Chicago-based Loebl Schlossman & Hackl. She was previously principal/executive vice president of Boston-based Flansburgh Associates.

Loebl Schlossman & Hackl is an architecture, planning and interior-design firm.

Chicago-based Bowman, Barrett & Associates Inc. has announced John "Jack" Barrett was promoted to vice chairman from president. James Daum was promoted to president from executive vice president.

Bowman, Barrett & Associates Inc. is an engineering firm.

Doug Curts was promoted to operations manager of Indianapolis-based F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co. Inc. He was previously contract and preconstruction manager.

F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co. Inc. is a general contractor.

Mark Sekula, senior facilities strategist for Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater Architects, received the 2003 Council Achievement of the Year Award from the Houston-based International Facility Management Association on behalf of IFMA's Facility Management Consultants Council. The honor is in recognition of achievements in attracting and retaining members, outstanding newsletter and Web site and ability to provide educational information to members.

Kansas City, Mo.-based HNTB Corp. has announced Monty Carlson was named construction project leader in the Madison, Wis., office. Kristin Turner was named traffic engineer, also in Madison. Bob Warren rejoined the firm as senior project manager in Milwaukee. Troy Deibert was named environmental engineer, also in Milwaukee.

HNTB Corp. is an architectural, engineering, planning and construction-management consulting firm.

Josh Johnson was named estimator for Milwaukee-based CG Schmidt Inc. He was previously an estimator with Anning Johnson in Chicago.

CG Schmidt provides general construction, construction management design phase and design-build services.

Helen Watts was promoted to senior vice president of marketing and managing principal of Chicago-based Interior Space International. She was previously vice president of marketing.

International Space International is the interior-design unit of A. Epstein and Sons International Inc.

Kevin Mykytiuk was named project manager of Chicago-based ABCO Electrical Design and Construction LLC. He was previously design manager for Wheeling, Ill.-based Nu-Line Technologies.

ABCO Electrical Design and Construction LLC provides electrical contracting services.

St. Louis-based Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc. has announced three of its architects in Chicago earned Leader in Energy and Environmental Design accreditation: Tish Kruse, vice president and director of interiors; John Hopkins, vice president of interior design; and Barbara Burnette, senior associate of interior design. Certification requires successful completion of a two-hour exam on green building design and construction.

Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc. is an architecture firm.

Kurt Messerli was promoted to regional general manager of the Midwest region for Minneapolis-based Harmon Inc. and will oversee the Milwaukee office, in addition to others outside the Midwest region. He was previously director of operations for Harmon Renovation.

Alan Hollenbeck, president and CEO of the Wheaton, Ill.-based RJN Group Inc., received the 2003 Collection System Award from the Water Environment Federation in Alexandria, Va. The award was presented for contribution to the advancement of wastewater collection.

Patricia Bolduc was named materials manager of Fond du Lac, Wis.-based J.F. Ahern Co. She was previously farm manager of Jennie-O/Hormel Corp. in Barron, Wis.

J.F. Ahern Co. is a mechanical and fire-protection contractor.

Phillip Alexander was named director of light commercial sales for Waukegan, Ill.-based American Fluorescent. He was previously vice president and general manager for Forecast Lighting in Elgin, Ill.

American Fluorescent designs and manufactures lighting fixtures.

Frank Eppink was named vice president of construction operations for Indianapolis-based Lauth Property Group. He was previously operations manager of Dallas-based Breck Group.

Lauth Property Group is a development and construction firm.

Matt Rebro, director of business development for Chicago-based Berglund Construction, has achieved the designation of Certified Professional Services Marketer from the Society for Marketing Professional Services. The standard recognizes those who have met a rigorous standard in marketing professional services.
